Lemonade clean-up

Now that summer is nearly here, it’s time to break out our hand juicer for one of our favorite summer treats. As part of our journey to wellness, we’ve realized that we consume way too much sugar.  I don’t want to deprive my family from enjoying occasional sweets, but we are always looking for healthier alternatives to our favorite treats.

Our original recipe called for:

1 1/4 cup (approximately 6-8 lemons) lemon juice,                                                  1 1/4 cup sugar,                                             5 cups cold water

I decided I not only wanted to reduce the sugar,  I wanted to try using Stevia.  Because I didn’t want a bitter lemonade, I decided to substitute half the sugar.  My adjusted recipe:

1 1/4 c. Lemon juice.                                      1/2 c. Sugar.                                                    1/2 c. Stevia.                                                    5 -6 c. Water.                                                     *optional – 1-2 drops Young Living        Lemon Vitality Oil

I put my daughter to work squeezing lemons while I made a simple syrup with 1 cup of the water, the sugar, and the Stevia. 20170602_115238

We added everything to a 2 quart pitcher, added the remaining 4 cups water. We added 2 drops Young Living Lemon Vitality Oil, 2 lemons sliced and a handful of ice. Perfect on a hot summer day!
